July Car and Motorcycle Accidents in the Chicago Suburbs

Multiple car accidents in Oswego, Naperville, Plainfield, Brookfield, Aurora, Schaumburg, Morton Grove, and Hoffman Estates resulted in serious injuries and fatalities. Pedestrians and motorcyclists were especially impacted by these car crashes. Please keep yourself safe this summer by maintaining your car in good working order, following the rules of the road, and refusing to drive while impaired or distracted.

Fatal Oswego Pedestrian Accident –  Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred in the early hours of July 1st on Mill Road on the west side. The pedestrian, a 32-year-old man from Oswego, was attempting to cross Mill Road at Washington Street when he was struck by a Nissan Sentra traveling eastbound on Mill Rd. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries. The driver of the Nissan was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Morton Grove, IL A 41-year-old man from Mount Prospect was killed in a traffic accident in Morton Grove on Friday, July 2nd. The crash occurred at the intersection of Oakton Street and Gross Point Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. when a motorcyclist riding east on Oakton Street at Gross Point collided with a Nissan Altima traveling west on Oakton. The motorcyclist was found unresponsive by police at the scene and was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Nissan Altima was driven by a 74-year-old man from Skokie. The accident is still under investigation.

Man Killed in Auto Accident in Schaumburg, IL— One person was killed and another was injured in a car crash on West Frontage and Woodfield roads near the Woodfield Mall on Monday, July 19th. The accident occurred when a Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound on West Frontage Road struck a Ford, traveling eastbound on Woodfield Road, that had run a red light and entered into the intersection. The Jeep, driven by a man from Bartlett, struck the driver’s side of the Ford. Police pronounced the driver of the Ford dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was transported to AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was in stable condition.

Motorcycle Accident in Brookfield, IL – A 59-year-old man from Riverside sustained major injuries while riding a motorcycle in Brookfield on July 22nd.  The motorcyclist was struck by a woman from Chicago who failed to yield while turning left onto eastbound Shields Avenue from Sunnyside Avenue. The driver of the car told police she saw the motorcycle but mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brakes. The motorcyclist was wearing an open-face helmet and suffered major trauma to his head, face, and hands when his motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the woman’s Chevy at about 5:30 p.m. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and treated for his injures.

Deadly Motorcycle Crash in Naperville, IL – A Naperville man died after suffering fatal injuries when his motorcycle collided with a Dodge Durango driven by a Bolingbrook woman on July 26th. The motorcyclist was driving north in the left lane of Washington and the Dodge Durango was turning east onto Royce from southbound Washington when they collided at the intersection. The motorcyclist was transported to Edward Hospital where he passed away. Police officers remained at the scene for several hours working to recreate the accident. The crash is still being investigated.

Pedestrian Killed in Hoffman Estates Car Accident – A pedestrian was killed by a vehicle around 9:21 p.m. Monday, July 26 as he walked along Higgins Road near Governors Lane in Hoffman Estates. The Aurora man was struck by a car while walking in the eastbound lane of Higgins Road. He was treated by members of the Hoffman estates police and fire departments and pronounced dead on the scene.  The accident is being investigated by the Hoffman Estates Police Traffic Division and the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.

Automobile Accident Kills Child in Plainfield, IL – A 34-year-old Joliet man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs after crashing into a Chevy Malibu and killing a young girl on Tuesday, July 27th. The tragedy happened around 11:50 a.m. when the man allegedly ran a stop sign at Grove Road and Illinois Route 26 in Plainfield and crashed his Nissan Altima into the driver’s side of the other vehicle.  The passenger in the Malibu, a six-year-old girl from Joliet, was thrown from the car during the accident. She was airlifted to the hospital but passed away from her injuries. The driver, a 29-year-old Joliet woman, was transported by helicopter to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, disobeying a stop sign, unlawful possession of cannabis, operating an uninsured vehicle, and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Serious Car Crash in Oswego – Two people were seriously injured in a collision that occurred around 11:50 a.m. July 27 on Route 126 at Grove Road south of Oswego, according to Illinois State Police. A motorist who was traveling northbound on Grove Road failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a vehicle that was proceeding westbound on Route 126 on the driver’s side. The driver of the westbound vehicle was airlifted to an area hospital with serious injuries, while a juvenile passenger in the same car was transported by paramedics to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Pedestrian Injured in Car Accident in Aurora –  Galena Bl. at River St. in Aurora was closed to traffic after an auto accident involving a pedestrian on July 28th. The pedestrian sustained broken bones and other injuries; a person of interest in the accident is in custody.

Motorcyclist Injured in Collision in Aurora – Police were called to the scene of a traffic accident that occurred at the intersection of Farnsworth Ave. at E. Indian Trail on July 30th.  A young man on a motorcycle was struck by a vehicle going east on Indian Trail. The car turned north onto Farnsworth into the path of the motorcyclist.  The motorcycle flipped twice in the air before landing, causing the motorcyclist to sustain injuries.
