Referrals, Co-Counsel, and Local Counsel
Our Chicago personal injury and wrongful death attorneys at Collins Law Group has been accepting referrals and working as co-counsel with other firms for 25 years. We pay referral and co-counsel fees when cases resolve, and over the years we have paid out millions of dollars in referral fees, including nearly $2.5 million in a single case.
We also serve as local counsel for firms litigating cases in Cook County and throughout the Chicago area. If your firm needs local presence, court familiarity, and established relationships in this jurisdiction, we can help.
We work with referring attorneys and co-counsel on personal injury and environmental cases, including:
Personal Injury
Environmental
Our track record across these case types speaks for itself.
Defense counsel and insurers price cases differently when they know the firm on the other side is preparing for trial. We prepare every case for verdict from the first deposition forward. That preparation produces settlements at the values our clients deserve — and verdicts when settlement falls short.
Our docket is intentionally lean. Cases receive partner-level attention, and referring counsel stay informed as principals on the matter throughout the litigation.
The cases referred to us typically involve catastrophic or fatal injuries. They require mastery of complex scientific and technical issues. And they pit injured victims against corporations and insurers with deep pockets and an appetite for prolonged litigation.
We have invested thousands of attorney hours in single cases. We have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on expert witnesses. This is the nature of the work.
Most firms are not set up to absorb that kind of financial risk, or simply lack experience with these case types. We have built our practice around exactly this kind of litigation.

We pay referral fees consistent with Illinois Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5(e). The referring attorney remains involved as the rule requires or assumes joint responsibility, the client consents in writing, and the total fee is reasonable. We put the fee arrangement in writing at the outset so there are no surprises when the case resolves.
We focus on serious personal injury and wrongful death matters — including truck and commercial vehicle collisions, catastrophic injuries, medical malpractice, and environmental and toxic exposure cases. These are typically high-stakes claims requiring significant investment in experts and litigation resources.
Yes. We keep referring attorneys updated on case progress and treat your client relationship with care. The goal is a result that reflects well on both firms and earns your confidence to refer again.
We do. For firms outside the area litigating in Cook County and throughout the Chicago region, we provide local presence, familiarity with the courts, and established relationships. We can also handle co-counsel arrangements where deeper involvement makes sense.
