Have you been diagnosed with vision loss or blindness after taking Ozempic or Wegovy? If so, we recommend calling our experienced drug injury attorneys to see if your vision problems are linked to the medication you were prescribed. Recent studies have shown an association between semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, and a serious eye condition - Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) - which can cause vision loss. NAION attacks the optic nerve and, in severe cases, can even lead to blindness. If you have experienced vision loss, you may be entitled to financial compensation, and the experienced personal injury attorneys at Collins Law can help.
We are currently investigating cases for clients experiencing vision loss or blindness after taking Wegovy or Ozempic. You do not have to suffer in silence; call us at 630-527-1595 or fill out our online form to discover whether you have a case against the manufacturer of these drugs.

Ozempic and Wegovy are medications developed by Novo Nordisk to manage diabetes and aid in weight loss. Their primary active ingredient is semaglutide. Both medications belong to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which regulate appetite and insulin secretion.
Ozempic is primarily prescribed for individuals with type 2 diabetes to help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce cardiovascular risks. In people with diabetes, Ozempic slows down the movement of food through the digestive tract, ensuring better absorption and regulation of sugars. This helps diabetics manage their blood sugar levels.
Wegovy, a higher-dose version of semaglutide, is used for weight management in individuals with obesity or weight-related conditions. It can be quite effective for weight loss because it mimics GLP-1, the body’s natural hormone related to hunger and fullness. The drug sends satiety messages to the brain, prompting the patient to eat less and lose weight.
Approximately 15 million people in the U.S., or about 6% of American adults, are currently taking a GLP-1 drug for weight loss. For some of those people the drugs are like a miracle, but for others they can become a nightmare. That’s because people are just now learning about the potential risks and side effects of Wegovy and Ozempic.
The demand for Wegovy, Ozempic, and other GLP-1 weight loss drugs continues to surge as Americans search for an effective way to lose those extra pounds. However, as more consumers flock to the medication, many are unaware of the potential dangers of the drug. While Ozempic and Wegovy can provide significant benefits for patients, they have also been linked tovision loss and blindness.
Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) and Vison Loss: A growing number of studies link Ozempic use to NAION and sudden, permanent, vision loss.
These serious side effects have led to increasing lawsuits against the manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, as patients seek compensation for their injuries.
NAION is a severe eye condition that occurs when there is a loss of blood flow to the optic nerve. The optic nerve suffers damage which results in vision loss. The condition can be sudden; two-thirds of patients wake up with unexplained, painless, vision loss. An eye doctor will diagnose NAION by conducting:
Know the Symptoms:
In the few weeks after the initial event, your vision may change, for 30% it deteriorates, 40% see some improvement, and the rest remain stable.
There is No Treatment:
Unfortunately, there are no effective treatments for NAION. The condition will be permanent and wearing eyeglasses does not help. Moreover, after having NAION in one eye, there is a 15%-25% chance it will occur in the other eye within 5 years.
Individuals who have suffered vision loss after using Ozempic and Wegovy have begun filing lawsuits against Novo Nordisk. These lawsuits generally claim that the pharmaceutical company:
Many of these lawsuits allege that had patients and doctors been properly warned about the risks, they would have chosen alternative treatments. The lawsuits are seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.
NAION and vison loss claims are being filed in state courts, most notably the New Jersey state court. Recently, the New Jersey courts granted plaintiffs a multicounty litigation (MCL) for Wegovy/Ozempic cases involving NAION vision loss only. This means that the cases will be consolidated in front of one judge and coordinated in that venue.
