Coronavirus Cases and Deaths Skyrocket at Illinois Nursing Homes

As the number of people infected with COVID-19 in Illinois continues to rise, new information is revealing how devastating the coronavirus has been in nursing homes in the state. In total, 438 nursing homes around the state have current outbreaks. Recently released data shows that there are more than 14,882 cases of COVID-19 in nursing homes across Illinois and 2400 deaths—about 50% of the COVID-19 deaths in Illinois.  These numbers exploded after the state began stepping up testing of residents and staff at nursing homes.

These facilities have the worst outbreaks of COVID-19 in the state as of May 8:

• City View Multi-Care Center in Cicero – 216 residents and staff have tested positive for coronavirus and 9 have died.
• Woodbridge Nursing Pavilion in Logan Square – 151 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 7 people have died.
• Symphony of Joliet – 127 cases of COVID-19 and 24 deaths.
• Windsor Park Manor in DuPage County – 116 cases of coronavirus and 20 deaths.
• Bia of Geneva has 113 cases of COVID-19 and 20 deaths of residents due to coronavirus-related issues.
• Bria Forest Edge in Cook County- 127 cases of coronavirus and 1 death.
• Alden Terrace of McHenry – 120 people have tested positive, 4 deaths.
• Mayfield Care Center in Cook County, 109 cases, 4 deaths.
• Symphony of Morgan Park, Cook County, 103 cases, 1 death.

The following facilities in Illinois are also dealing with very significant outbreaks of COVID-19 as well:

• Symphony Northwoods in Boone County – 48 cases and 7 deaths
• Carlyle HealthCare Center in  Clinton County –  63 cases and 4 deaths
• Arbor Health Care Center in Cook County – 47 cases and 1 death

• Beacon Care Center in Cook County – 49 cases and 5 deaths
• Bellhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cook County – 78 cases and 2 deaths

• Center Home for Hispanic Elderly, Cook County, 51 cases, 16 deaths.
• Central Nursing Home, Cook County, 71 cases, 9 deaths.

• Fairmont Care, Cook County, 54 cases, 7 deaths.
