- The Firm filed a minority-shareholder lawsuit against the Harvard State Bank. Pope v. Harvard State Bank. Our client's family was
one of the founders of the Harvard State Bank nearly a century ago. The lawsuit alleges that she was squeezed out as a shareholder
of the bank for improper purposes and for an unfair price. The lawsuit is pending in Federal court in Chicago. (February, 2006;
Shawn Collins, David Fish)
- The Firm filed a federal class action lawsuit (on 5/9/07) against the Village of Lisle and Illinois-American Water Company, alleging
misconduct that has caused the Oak View water system to be “so inadequate that it cannot reliably deliver even the minimum water
pressure necessary to put out a fire at a home or school in the neighborhood.” This case is currently pending, please see this page
for further details.
- The Firm obtained a settlement worth over $8,000,000.00 for its clients in an environmental contamination case on behalf of families
in Urbana, Ohio, alleging two companies destroyed the groundwater (used for drinking, bathing, etc.), serving residents in the area,
polluting it with toxic chemicals (TCE, PCE). (May, 2005; Shawn Collins, Edward Manzke, Daniel Fabbri, co-counsel: N. Berger,
M. Hayes)
- The Firm has reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit on behalf of approximately 250 families in Naplate, Illinois alleging a local
glass manufacturer contaminated the entire town - groundwater, soil and air - with arsenic. The multi-million dollar settlement will
not only compensate property owners for loss in value of their properties, but will also ensure the entire village has a safe drinking
water supply well into the future. (May, 2005; Shawn Collins, Edward Manzke, Aaron Rapier, co-counsel: N. Berger, M. Hayes, S.
Bleiweiss)
- The Firm reached a settlement of $16.9 million for its clients (approx. 1,500 families in Lisle, Woodridge and Downers Grove,
Illinois), whose drinking water was contaminated by toxic chemicals (TCE) migrating from a nearby industrial property. The
settlement was approved by a federal court Judge in Chicago on September 14, 2004. This is one of the largest toxic tort
settlements in Illinois. (September, 2004; Shawn Collins, Edward Manzke, Aaron Rapier)
- The Firm secured a $10 million settlement on behalf of its clients (186 families), in Lisle, Illinois, whose drinking water had been
contaminated by toxic chemicals (TCE) migrating from Defendants’ nearby industrial property. The $10 million settlement is
believed to be one of the highest of its type in the State of Illinois; also, the case went to trial before a jury within 18 months of
being filed - - extraordinarily fast for a case of this kind. (May, 2002; Shawn Collins, Edward Manzke, Aaron Rapier)
